KXplore - King's Cross

Urban Redevelopment

Client: Argent LLP

Date: 2014 - 2016

Need: Argent LLP were undertaking a major urban regeneration project across 64 acres of King’s Cross in central London. This much loved area was changing beyond recognition and Argent wanted to capture and share the area’s historical sense of place, as well as their ambitions for the redevelopment.

Response: Working with the Argent team, local historians and a generous contribution of archive images from the Canal Museum, we created a free-to-access trail for smartphones and tablets around King’s Cross, sharing voices from the past and present, and visions for the future.

Learning: In a constantly changing site you need to create versatile and robust solutions. KXplore was designed to be flexible as well as location-based – content could be reassigned to different hotspots as the site hoardings moved and what the visitor could see changed.
